Wicked Problems Discussion Forum

a phrase used ... to describe a problems that are difficult or impossible to solve because of incomplete, contradictory, and changing requirements that are often difficult to recognize. Moreover, because of complex interdependencies, the effort to solve one aspect of a wicked problem may reveal or create other problems. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wicked_problem)

The origins of the phrase wicked problem.

There are many wicked problems in project management, what could research study to bring insight on these tricky problems?

WICKED PROBLEM - Is there such a thing as benefit's creep?

In the LinkedIn Leadership in Project Managemernt Group Frank Ramser (Sydney,Australia) raised this interesting topic. The overall feel of the discussion was that  benfits must be set SMARTly and offer real value to the project. It is the unrealistic befits that cause problems for a project. One participant (Pat Weaver, Melbourne Australia) added a blog offering on who manages benefits?

WICKED PROBLEM - Standards driving reality?

There's also an interesting discussion  "Standards as reality making." - on Linked In's  OPM3 SIG led by John Schlichter.

WICKED PROBLEM - Engaging Project Sponsors

Project sponsors are important. They bridge the tempoary organisation (the project) and the permanent organisation but as such are often already doing their day job so often do not live up to project managers expectations. Hear an interview with Bill Duncan about Project Sponsor Standards from GAPPS.
